CHANGES TO SPHY, SPHYC, AND DPHY REGISTRATION AND RENEWAL

As part of our ongoing effort to enhance customer service for our licensees, the Board of Medicine is excited to inform you that we are streamlining our processes for registering and renewing registration of Supervising and Directing Physicians (SPHY/SPHYC/DPHY) in Idaho.  Beginning in March 2020, registering and renewing registration to serve as a SPHY, SPHYC, or DPHY will be aligned with the annual licensure renewal process.   This means that physicians will be able to renew their license to practice medicine and their registration to supervise or direct at the same time.  We anticipate that this change will promote efficiency, both for licensees and for Board staff, and will make annual renewal of registration more convenient overall.

In order to implement this change, there will be no registration renewal period in November/December of 2019.  If you are currently registered as a SPHY, SPHYC, or DPHY, your registration will remain current until your next license renewal in the Spring of 2020 or 2021, depending on your license expiration date.

The expiration date of your current SPHY, SPHYC, or DPHY registration will be updated in the Board’s database to reflect this change. The Supervising End Dates for your Physician Assistants or Athletic Trainers will also reflect the new expiration date of your existing SPHY, SPHYC,or DPHY registration. Please note: we will not be issuing new wallet cards.

We will be sending out notices for our 2020 Spring renewal period in March of 2020.  Please take a moment to review your current mailing address on the Board of Medicine’s website and make any corrections necessary online.  In addition, please provide a valid e-mail address that you access frequently.

For additional information or questions about the new process, please email Licensing Manager Phyllis Tambling at licensing@bom.idaho.gov
